The secret of American justice, freedom, and prosperity has always been in our acknowledgement of and submission to the authority of Almighty God. His laws are righteous and just. He is perfect and when we follow His rules, life is good. It is when we rebel and sin that we make life worse for ourselves and others. When we cease to be moral to one another we create an environment of chaos and fear, out of which horrible rulers rise. It was with this in mind that William Penn said,
“Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them or by a power without them; either by the word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible, or by the bayonet.”
It is against a backdrop of a culture that has tried its best to ignore, push aside, and openly spit in the face of God that our government has begun in earnest to remove our liberties. Long forgetting or choosing to ignore that citizens’ liberty is granted by God and not them, the government has removed the right to life if a mother chooses to abort her child. They have declared the pursuit of happiness off limits if that pursuit means you earn a certain amount of money, or choose to support the wrong politician, or want to raise your children in an atmosphere free of sexual perversion. And they are working behind the scenes, quietly, to take away liberty in its entirety.
It is not only predictable, it is certain: when man turns his back on God and His Word, the Bible, society greatly suffers or is ruined. America is no different; she is not exempt. As we have rebelled against a holy God, our country has suffered and will continue to unless we repent. When those in authority have no respect for the Creator, they certainly have no respect for created man.
